I think I agree on your assessment of who would enjoy these things. Even though I wouldn't count my husband among them, he and his cousin Debbie were downright giddy at the family name discovery a few short years ago (they're both into genealogy), so the beginning of Tempus Fugit (which I saw when my son gave it to his wife) seemed perfect. And without that Reddit thread spoiling it, he likely would have continued to be excited, especially if MPC had included that family name in the second mailing.
I wish someone had given ME an MPC experience! Which is why I subscribe to C&C (and also to Hunt A Killer now, too). (sigh)
OH well. Maybe someday I'll purchase one for myself... once we finally open this last package from Tempus Fugit! LOL

I wish someone had given ME an MPC experience! Indeed! An Experience would have been the most engaging way of learning about the Mysterious Package Company... Well, perhaps in the next life!

I still think King in Yellow and Risen are the most successful experiences in their totality.

I'm excited to announce that the BOX HAS BEEN OPENED! Yes, the Tempus Fugit crate that has been sitting on my dining room table since July 2016 (yes, LAST year) was finally opened tonight! And that only happened because my brother-in-law and mother-in-law are staying with us as refugees from Hurricane Irma. (They live in Port Charlotte, Fla., and we're up near Pittsburgh, Pa.) Someone asked at dinner, "What's that box at the other end of the table?" Once we started trying to explain it, they were dumbfounded that Wayne (my husband, the recipient) had never opened it. Soooo... my brother-in-law and I opened it, to much oohing and ahhing. I showed them the other two mailings too, and there was a lot of discussion about who would send such things. Much to my surprise, my husband started telling them all about the Mysterious Package Company. It seems he wasn't as uninterested all this time as I had been assuming. I said, "So you did more digging after we last talked about it?" He said yes, and then my BIL was Googling it and coming up with all sorts of "unboxing" videos of various experiences, not just this one. Still lots of excitement. Wayne then proceeded to say that there was supposed to be a black envelope telling him who sent everything but that he never got that. Hubby had to dash out to put gas in his truck for work in the morning and while he was out, I admitted to my BIL that I was the one who had these things sent. He said, "Yeah, Wayne figured that out. When Mom asked who would send him something like this, you didn't see it but he pointed to you." Needless to say, it probably had to be me since I would have been the only one able to hide the final envelope all this time. Anyway, they settled into the living room after dinner and I dashed upstairs to try to find the final envelope. It's been over a YEAR so it took me WAY too long to find it. I brought it down and he opened it, but made it seem like a horrible CHORE to do so. ANYWAY, I finally got to see the artifact I'd paid for more than a year and a half ago. Yay! Still... lesson learned. There is apparently WAY too much stuff out there now to fully surprise ANYONE with any curiosity at all. A little digging and it all comes up now. And I know my husband well enough to know that he wouldn't enjoy the prank for its own sake. What got him at first was the fact that he thought it was real. Once he realized it wasn't, he felt a bit pouty about having been fooled, even for a day, and wouldn't cooperate. But I felt a little bit vindicated that he'd done his own research on the side and knew all about the company and how they operate. Now I go back to just sending myself C&C packages and enjoying those instead.

Now that was about time! And no-one can ever say you do not have a story to tell.

Yes, the tale of all tales!

Yes, the tale of all tales! At some point there should be a comprehensive collection of these tales. Involving the authorities, spontaneous book burnings to drive the devil out, keeping a locked box of who-knows-what in the home for a year! Often times these stories seem to be more turbulent than the Experience itself!

Have heard rumors of this sort of thing but would love to hear from someone up close and personal. Probably not funny at the time, but would make a GREAT future story to tell later.

Probably not funny at the time, but would make a GREAT future story to tell later. There used to be subreddits, where 'helpful' people of all stripes would helpfully stoke their panic and would recommend involving the FBI. It is a bit heartbreaking also when you remember that there is always someone who genuinely thought they would make them happy with that sort of gift. But as far as salvaging a near catastrophe goes, they will always have a fun anecdote.

Received my crate today, from the Dread Holidays sale Surprise Me... ...and I have to say, the pictures of the artifact on the MPC website do not do it justice. No-one has mentioned the burned in letters My crate arrived today. Did your artifact really have burned in letters? My message for help looks like they just used a stencil and gloss black spray paint. The clear acetate sheet has been replaced with an opaque white sheet although it does feel plasticky.

My message looks kind of smeared, but not like a stencil and spray paint . I am not looking at it right now, but can't remember if the letters were burned in or hand-painted.

It's fine. It just looks out of place considering the materials available in prehistory. The front is what everyone sees and it's painted brilliantly. The oilcloth it came wrapped in to "preserve" it is a nice touch.

Mine looks nothing like that (at least my recollection is that it doesn't). If I have time to find which crate it's in and open it up, I'll snap a pic and post it here.

I just received mine this past week, and it looks similar to the photo rob posted: it just looks like it is painted on with shiny black paint. The scram sheet from the drone is printed on shiny white paper rolled into a tube.

It's funny; I remembered the letters looking more burned in than they are. Looking at mine right now, and I got mine at the end of 2016, they look painted on and certainly don't have the feel that burned in letters would (I'm sure the idea is that the letters are supposed to be burnt in, but they're clearly not upon inspection). Mine doesn't seem quite as shiny as yours does though. This doesn't seem like a big quality difference to me, though rob, it looks like your picture cuts off Brian's name. I assume that was there?
