BE SURE TO DRINK YOUR OVALTINE
But seriously, I saw in a FB group that someone had reached out for clarification and they were told 1) this is not a Kickstarter, 2) There will be a discount of some sort for the participants in the contest, and 3) there IS still going to be a winner announced soon. It doesn't negate the click-bait email subject line but does give some more info.

Received an email today where they have announced
as the new experience. Apparently it will be the first ever double-crate experience. My only question is whether they will ever run out of Great Old Ones to milk for content. I miss the days of John Auger and Under the Ceiba Tree.

Honestly, I'm excited again for this one. I'm still holding out hope it ties into the real-world Obelisk mystery, but Hastur and Carcosa are my favourite experiences and this seems to line right up with those.

And the presale is on! For a steep price of CAN492$ (tx and shipping included). The experience looks very tempting, but the price... ouch!

Lol, and the presale promotion doesn't even include a discount or free shipping...

Be careful! When you click the link in the email, it takes you straight to a spoiler pic of everything that's in the crates. Maybe have a disinterested third party order it on your behalf.

I kinda hope that pictures of a very early prototype. The 3D items in it just look very low-quality for some reason

More Drama Yikes. Anybody now how much overlap there is in the creative team for this vs. Carcosa or Hastur? Those seem to be the closest in terms of tone / storytelling.

More Drama Yikes. Anybody now how much overlap there is in the creative team for this vs. Carcosa or Hastur? Those seem to be the closest in terms of tone / storytelling. This will likely be the last time I post on this thread as I'll be skipping this experience (and likely anything else from the MPC), but my understanding from previous interactions with people in the know is that pretty much everyone involved with previous products, including Hastur, are gone (Carcosa was ages ago at this point and I would be very surprised if anybody remains from that particular project). Consider how long it's been since a new product was released. Also, while I didn't enter the contest and haven't registered for email updates, just going from what's on the website I am beyond unimpressed. They deleted it, but when the announcement was first posted they were using the image of Nyarlathotep from his Wikipedia entry, which is quite lazy. The power symbol in the middle of the Egyptian eye looks extremely cheesy to me, and the trailer feels like people who are using Lovecraftian tropes but are trying to be "edgy" and "cool" rather than trying to actually understand the tropes that they're using. For example, "The Stars Are Wrong" is garbled nonsense in the context of the Mythos; the stars are technically always "wrong" because the reference of "The Stars Are Right" refers to the time when the stars align and bring the Old Ones back to Earth to consume us. And then a personal thing that irks me, but this is less universally accepted, is the mispronunciation of "NyarLAThotep" in the trailer as "NyarLATHotep". Given that his original incarnation on Earth was as an Egyptian Pharaoh, the pronunciation would be Nyar-Lat-Ho-Tep; this is how it's used by Chaosium for Call of Cthulhu and how creators like the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society pronounce it in their works. In general, the lack of attention to detail, which in the past has been a hallmark of the MPC's work, plus mediocre art direction, a likely brand new creative team, and what sounds like a bait and switch marketing campaign for the obelisk contest raise every red flag for me, and all lead me to not wanting to go near this thing.

The only thing I would say on this whole creative thing is the monthly Curious Correspondence Club is absolutely brilliant and massive value for money (particularly for some geezer like me in the UK) - I'm up to envelope 4 so far, and value for money for each is through the roof.

I got the "bonus" add on crate today. Which is partly to say, I did order this - in case an admin wants to create a thread for it in the Experiences section. Happy to share when things come in.

Do you mean the King In Yellow book and statue? That is just an abridged version of the King In Yellow experience which does indeed have a thread

Do you mean the King In Yellow book and statue? That is just an abridged version of the King In Yellow experience which does indeed have a thread I'm aware, but since there was a lot of drama and people "never buying again," I was sharing that I did, indeed, buy it and that I would be happy to contribute to that thread if it were created. The arrival of the KIY stuff just reminded me that I bought it and that there wasn't a thread (which is a longer way of saying what I thought I said initially?).

Ah understood - I thought you were asking for a thread for the King in Yellow, not realizing it was a previous experience. You may have seen it arleady but the sub-board for Nyarlathotep was just created here: curiosandconundrums.freeforums.net/board/92/nyarlathotep
