I have a theory that the compass rose is oriented incorrectly in reference to a map that already exists

If I'm correct, you definitely need to change your perspective when viewing the map

So after perusing other posts, I feel as though I can share my thoughts a bit less cryptically as long as I hide the spoilers. I am thinking that the map is of Oak Island The symbols found on our map, while not the same as the symbols found on the Oak Island tablet are definitely similar in appearance. The compass rose, is noted by others to appear to be oriented with North facing down, towards the south There is an old treasure map that is suspected to be of Oak Island North on this old map also points down to the south, and when this old map is viewed upside down, it resembles the Oak Island landmass. If we turn our map upside down, I believe it too resembles part of Oak Island. Vega and Denab are stars that are answers in the crossword These stars are also part of the mysteries of Oak Island and its neighbor, Birch Island In the Medium is the Message, and in Javier's obituary, St. Mark's is mentioned Google Earth will show St. Marks due west of Oak Island Some of these may be a stretch, but I think it's worth looking into.

It occurred to me the other night that perhaps I've been looking at the map the wrong way. What if the map is upside-down
Would you believe that the symbols closest to the compass rose could (in this new orientation) represent the words "CANCER BALANCER"? I find that interesting since there's an unbalanced half of the Cancer symbol sitting nearby.
Or maybe I'm crazy. I don`t think you´re crazy. If I follow your letter substitution and the upside-down orientation, then the words near the F would both end with /e/, which is very much possible. When I look at the letter distribution in English, then the triangle and the circle with the stripes are somewhat more frequent, so it could be /t/, /o/ or /i/ a veeeery long stretch could be the word "blow" near the skull. Could be others too, but I think this upside-down-approach may finally lead somewhere.

Also, consider that it might not read uniformly left-to-right, regardless of orientation. There are some languages and ciphers that change direction every line: Attachments:

But in this case, if we look at the lines near the compass, these two words are 80% the same. Looks more like their orientation does not change.

My issue with the inverted map hypothesis is that the letters on the compass rose and the F on the map are clearly right-side up, so they'd be using two different orientations, one for letters and another for symbols, which is possible, but unusually deceptive.
But "South is Down" is also possible without inverting any symbols.
