this may be a stretch but i think the sea monster may actually be Cetus, based on the constellation on the Lilliput sticker. Thoughts?

The creature angle is interesting, the sea monster on the map really does look like the cetus in Wikipedia!

You are absolutly right! And starts with a particular letter, which has never ever come up so far

I'm not sure if anyone has noticed this yet, or if it leads to anything, but the "6" in the rose also looks like the first half of the Cancer symbol.

The symbols! Im about to look into this deeper but I have an idea. the symbols with dots remind me of astrological paths of stars/comets/planets. Perhaps someone call help me find which ones? Also, I noted in the mega plot section the other symbols are similar to the philosophers stone symbol. Perhaps that is what were looking for? Maybe the triangle is one word, square another, lines a third, circle etc... how many different symbols if you break them up are there?

Maybe the triangle is one word, square another, lines a third, circle etc... how many different symbols if you break them up are there? Depends on how you want to count things... I attempted to decompose things myself and came up with: - Square (in 3 sizes: large, medium, small) - Lightning bolt (in 2 orientations: horizontal, vertical) - Switchback (in 3 orientations: backward S, N, mirror image N) - Oval (in 2 orientations: horizontal and vertical) - Triangle (in 2 sizes: large and small) - Dots (single centered, single bottom center, two on the sides, three on triangle points) - Three lines (in 2 orientations: horizontal and vertical) - Circle (in 3 sizes: large, medium, small) - Diamond (in 1 size: small) - Pair of small circles
I can give you the breakdown of what symbols they appear in (based on Todd's numbering of the symbols), but that's going to take a lot longer to type.

What do you think of them all relating to constellations/orbits and when you're in "x" area and "x" time of year they are all in the night sky. Seems super complicated but its the only thing that keeps popping up to me.

And the other symbols all relate similarly?

The curator did hint at Time and Place Well, it is worth a shot. Cetus, the constellation from the seamonster on the map, is visible at the northern hemisphere at the begin of december. I don't know about the other constellations hinted in the puzzles, yet. But untill further clues I would assume the place being Niagara Falls or somewhere near.

It occurred to me the other night that perhaps I've been looking at the map the wrong way. What if the map is upside-down
As someone else pointed out, on a standard compass rose, the arrow pointing North is always different from the other three. On our map, the arrow pointing down (toward T) is different from the other three.
If you rotate your map 180 degrees, the unique arrow now points "North" and the tail end of the half-Cancer symbol within the rose now sits just where 22 Down on the Crossword says it should: SSE.
And now that the map is rotated, all of the "words" on the map are reversed as well, meaning it's worth taking another stab at simple letter substitution.
Would you believe that the symbols closest to the compass rose could (in this new orientation) represent the words "CANCER BALANCER"? I find that interesting since there's an unbalanced half of the Cancer symbol sitting nearby.
Or maybe I'm crazy.

The symbol of a square with a path and dot in the middle appear to be the moons path and the autumn equinox?
