The horoscopes appear to depart from their previous format. Discuss theories here.

From looking through the wiki (remember, this is my first issue of C&C) it appears that previous editions of the horoscopes have had the theme of being related to the works of a single author and may or may not relate to the travel column. This time, the theme seems to be that the person writing the horoscopes is sitting in a bar getting plastered. Was there a part of Gulliver's Travels that involved copious amounts of wine?

Waab from what I read of the horoscopes, I'm not sure it is confined to just one category. Though more investigation is under way

I find the preface to the horoscopes section to be very intriguing, personally.

Current favorite theory: Bernice Any thoughts?

Speaking for myself, my initial reaction was along the lines of, "This guy is crocked." Then it occurred to me that, given the progression, cirrhosis is a pretty good answer as well because that's totally where he's headed, he'd only need a couple more signs of the zodiac for him to complete the spiral. The reason I don't like Bernice all that much is that it kinda clashes with the commonality observed in the meta-answers.

If it's going to be that on-the-nose it might as well be Constellation. Cancer - Reminiscent of the plot of F. Scott Fitzgerald's Bernice Bobs her Hair. Virgo - Bert has a pet pigeon named Bernice. Libra - In August Wilson's The Piano Lesson, Berniece and her whiskey-drinking brother Boy Willie disagree about what to do with their family's heirloom piano. I have others that seem more forced. It's also worth noting that Coma Berenices is a constellation near the tail of Leo.

I can get behind constellation as a good option, but why don't we just leave it at constellation because every sign of the zodiac is a constellation instead of forcing another overlay... and I think cirrhosis is a good option as well. I think when someone finds exactly the right thing, we'll know it.

For the same reason I don't think the hidden message in Kick is Cat.

For the same reason I don't think the hidden message in Kick is Cat. I tend to agree. Kicking cats is wrong. Vegetables, on the other head, have no feelings.

I think the horoscopes were written by he who answered the special letter . It is guilt that causes him to drink . The word could be guilt . I feel we have to put the horoscopes in a certain order of occurrence to make it make sense . I also think it is tied into the letters page . Especially one paticular letter .

I was thinking that perhaps a certain crabby zodiac sign's horoscope might be especially important given the Spot the Differences puzzle or maybe some other connection given these seem to be the only puzzles concerning the stars?

That's not true. All of the italicized Crossword answers are constellations, of a sort...

I was thinking the same. Also, a certain clue from KICK might have to do with Sagittarius, a clue from Word Search might have to do with Gemini, and a clue from the Crossword might have to do with Libra. What if all the clue words have a corresponding Horoscope? Are each represented by a certain alcoholic beverage or theme? For example, bivalve from Sagittarius might mean Tequila.

That's so true I didn't even think of all that! I would not be surprised if each of the horoscopes feed into a puzzle elsewhere.
