In the race for global domination, the world was once divided between countries governed by communist
versus capitalist ideologies. Within the East-West dichotomy each side was convinced the other was evil and
consequently the struggle for world supremacy ensued.
Fueled by fear and deep-seated mistrust, scientists on both sides of the Iron Curtain worked relentlessly to
secure widespread hegemony for their regimes. While nuclear annihilation was a terrifying threat to people
of all nations, one side developed something far more unfathomable, far more diabolical, far more sinister
in its intent.
There was indeed a Great Evil, but it made no distinction between cultures. And contrition was not enough to stop it.
Whether you are brave, bold, curious or foolish, if you intend to immerse in this story, be warned: this is not
merely a story about a scientific breakthrough gone bad. This is a story that can leave psychic scars and alter
the course of humanity. Brace yourself.

I emailed the MPC to see if this was just a new name for Risen, and my reply back was:

They probably found a way to work Cthulhu into it.

They probably found a way to work Cthulhu into it. Heh! Perhaps. However, it looks like they changed the artifact to a smaller, more streamlined look.

The page now reads that there are various personalized letters. I'm in my usual completionist debate. I did pick up the Spanish Weeping Book after all lol

Risen was my very first MPC Experience, and part of what I loved about it was that at least with the first mailing, you had no clue that something sinister was going on. With this, it’s all front and center. This might be equivalent in terms of content, but the elegance and heart of the original experience is gone.

I did pick up the Spanish Weeping Book after all lol I am also on the fence. My Risen artifact ended up in the trash when a crack appeared from top to bottom. With 5 cats, I didn’t want to chance one of them deciding to have a taste of whatever was inside.

ZOMBIE CATS! I ended up buying it. Worst case scenario, it's not different enough and I gift it to someone (depending on the personalization I might have to remake a few things). A comment for a different thread, but I was looking at the "updated" version of Tempus Fugit and it doesn't look great --- also, I just had an OMG moment in realizing the clay tray thing from Hastur is the same backing to the original Tempus Fugit artifact haha

Spoiler update on the first mailing of Contagion R: From what I recall of the original experience, you now get all of what was in the first two mailings as a singular mailing. There is still a customized letter and two new things: an aged, in-story envelope that everything comes in (can be seen on the website), and a sheet of ticker paper with a LOT of Morse code adding a little more to the story and potentially setting something up in the next mailing.

Second mailing has come in and while impressive, I find myself stumped. It's late and I've gone through and did some translating again (and wrote it down this time), but still not able to crack the lock. Though perhaps that's for the best given the ominous letter...

Glad I'm not alone. I double checked the website and it's only two mailings, so I assume we must have everything. I also did the original Risen experience so I know what's different, but can't align anything.

I ended up cracking the lock but only becauae I watched a youtube video on how to open those types without the combo. I went back through everything and cannot see where that combo came from, so I dunno. What was inside was EXTREMELY disappointing, I can't even tell what it is...

That's too bad - the original Risen experience had a fun end artifact. I'd hate to do the cracking method but I really can't find anything else. I may reach out and just ask.
