Saw this today in Kickstarter - $23 gets you the "cryptic parcel" to help decipher the mysteries of the titular elevator. Delivery only to the US, for reasons I am unable to discern.

Looks like another version of Journal 29...at the price of $28 (including shipping) seems like a worthwhile expenditure. I backed it.

Amazingly, my shipment is on its way! That is almost certainly the fastest turnaround I’ve experienced from something Kickstarted to it getting delivered.

WARNING!!!!
I received my box today. I haven't gotten into yet because the first thing in the box is a User Agreement which has a non-disparagement clause. It literally says, "user shall not, at any time...disparage, question, criticize or otherwise make any reference to any of this game"... Frankly any game maker that puts clauses like this in their material that says (essentially) that you can only say good things about us or we have the right to sue you ensures that I will never do business with them again.
Oh...one other thing...if you don't fully agree to all the terms and conditions they have set forth in their agreement - they make a point of putting in BOLD and ALL CAPS in the agreement that "IF YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO HONOR THIS INDEMNITY AND RELEASE, OR IF USER IS NOT FULLY COMFORTABLE WITH ALL TERMS HEREIN, DO NOT ACCESS, EXAMINE, GO NEAR, TOUCH, PARTICIPATE IN USE OR UTILIZE THIS GAME, THE ENCLOSED KIT, THE CORRESPONDING MATERIALS, OR ANY OF THEM, AND DO NOT GO NEAR ANY PERSON WHILE SUCH PERSON IS DOING SO.
Update: It could be that this language violates the consumer review fairness act of 2016.

Update: It could be that this language violates the consumer review fairness act of 2016. It seems to also technically say we aren't allowed to talk about the game at all. Which is really weird. I'm going to craft something to add to their announcement on the kickstarter. It struck me as absurd as well.

I sent a message to Team Bluefish the other day about it. They thanked me and said they are contacting the lawyer who created it.

Hahaha when I read it I definitely thought "okay, someone just passed the Bar and wanted to flex." I understand covering your bases and some parts like "this is a work of fiction" or whatever is fine, but some parts like you have to be 18 to play the game or the issues we covered here seem like a reach.
And if I don't agree, can I mail it back? Can I even do that without "going near or touching" the game? haha
That aside, the actual documents and things in the box seem like a lot of fun. So I'm hoping this doesn't spoil it too much for me. Or that I get sued lol.

My reply to their update:
The disclaimer seems a bit absurd and at times not even consistent. The disclaimer says you have to be at least 14 to play, but then the all caps part on the back says 18. The non-disparagement says I'm not allowed to "otherwise make reference to any of this game" which essentially says we can't talk about it at all? And nothing disparaging or questioning? I suppose I'm doing that now, but I also haven't started playing the game. There isn't an out for people if they ARE uncomfortable with any of the terms. Can we mail it back? Get a refund? Technically we aren't even allowed to "go near" or "touch" it according to the indemnity and release section, so I guess it lives on my apartment counter forever? lol
All that said, the contents look great and I think this will be a lot of fun. But please don't sue me for not taking your ridiculous executive summary (is there a longer version we are agreeing to?) you included in it's current form.

The non-disparagement clause is clearly illegal. You type that phrase in Google and you will get pages of links talking about how its been illegal for several years now.

Was there ever a response from Bluefish on these ludicrous and unenforceable terms? I bought a copy from their website after the kickstarter and it didnt contain that disclaimer.

I don't have the exact wording but essentially they said they used a lawyer to cover their bases and did not have the expertise themselves to know if it was normal or accurate so they trusted them but were intending to get that fixed. I guess they just decided to scrap it because no one would sue for this? lol
