So while TBL continues to develop, I thought it might be helpful to create a thread that compiles all of the literary/cinematic references made in the podcasts/emails that we know of so far, as I have a feeling that utilizing these references will be needed for puzzles. I'm sure I've missed and will continue to miss references here and there, so please comment below with any that aren't here and I'll edit the post and add them.
Italo Calvino- if on a winter's night a traveller (ISBN number in upper right of the website)
Traditional- Little Red Riding Hood, various versions (The Calico Cloak)
David Kaplan- Little Red Riding Hood (film) (email from 9/27/19)
Traditional- One Thousand and One Nights (A Foundational Valve and The Ensuing Handkerchief)
Terry Pratchett- Discworld series (A Foundational Valve)
William Shakespeare- Othello (The Ensuing Handkerchief)
Charlotte Perkins Gilman- The Yellow Wallpaper (email from 10/30/19 and The Yellow Cylinder and The Yellow Wallpaper podcasts)
Arthur C. Clarke- Clarke's Laws (The Yellow Wallpaper- name of the male librarian)
H.P. Lovecraft- Pickman's Model (maybe?) (there's a reference in Yellow Wallpaper about Lovecraft fingerpainting; the only thing I can think of here would be the short story Pickman's Model, but this could be more of a generic reference to Lovecraft's imagination)
Traditional- Hansel and Gretel (My Brother's Keeper)
The Bible- Cain and Abel (Of Perilous Narratives)
William Shakespeare- The Two Gentlemen of Verona (Of Perilous Narratives)
Roald Dahl- Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Of Perilous Narratives)
In a Grove by Ryunosuke Akutagawa (But Here's What Really Happened)- also worth noting this is the inspiration for the classic Kurosawa film Rashomon
As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner (But Here's What Really Happened)
