So I am a bit confused. I know the letter said to not dig too deep in the things from the "real" time around then, but something bothers me a bit. Its about the entry that starts with 'went to the grand national today' something like that. Quick google search showed the grand nationals were on march 27th that year. But we already have a separate journal entry for that day, which is definitely not the same day. Now I understand they could have taken some freedom with dates and such, but it just feels strange they did so with such a prominent and obvious event. So whats going on there?

There is in-game confirmation that the Grand National was actually on Friday, March 27th. So whatever is going on there with the discrepancy seems to be going on in-game.

I wouldn't write off the possibility of two entries for the same date. One before they gathered at the Casino before proceeding to the Grand National, and one at the end of the day.

As for the date of the grand national entry The Illustrated Times is dated Sunday 3/29. If you read the article about the grand national in that paper you should be able to determine the date of said Grand National.

That would seem strange though, cause the casino one is for going to a pub. That early in the morning? also at the end of the grand national entry he is sitting at his desk. At home? At work? Cause if its at work I would put the grand national entry before the casino one. Also, someone pointed me to this section on the main website: And now I am starting to doubt everything :/

Oh no! Don’t make me start doubting everything too!

I would not pay close attention to the original descriptions of things on the website or Kickstarter campaign, or at least read too deeply into them, as things changed in development. For example, the “masses of online content” aren’t hidden, they were just scrapped completely because of time and technical issues. I’d pay most attention to what it says in the Welcome letter as far as what to do in the actual game that was produced. With that said, considering that this was inspired by Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective, deduction is of course going to be needed.

While I would agree with you about specifics on the site having changed since that was written, that bit seems more like general advice to look at the reliability of your sources, especially when things (like a date) seem to point to some sort of contradiction. And given the diary writer says on the first page he may try to go back and add in dates, it's possible that's part of the discrepancy. Even if our diarist was a reliable narrator in the beginning, he probably isn't one by the end. I would trust newspaper dates over diary and letter dates, anyway. Except maybe in ads.

I kinda disregarded that first page as nothing more than an explanation why everything was just criss-cross in the diary, but him adding in dates later and being mistaken is a real possibility. Damn. This is starting to hurt my brain XD I hope its gonna make more sense when I have more puzzles solved. This diary really is a bitch Dont know if everything needs to be in a spoiler, but oh well, just to be sure xD

noticed some markings on each left page. Not sure if this part of a puzzle yet or just the print of the paper. But sure feels odd, once noticed

The sundial page was killing me. I had a wrong idea that I should use: The Telephone add from the newspaper. Thought the circle could be a sun behind the phone: sun dial. Finally solved it now. I used this method: (spoiler will not give answer) Guessed the solution and worked from there.

I have had a look at the family tree and come to a conclusion on the question marks, but that gives an answer that matches the number of question marks, but this cannot be the final answer can it?
