Hi all. I am assuming that we all have recieved the E-Mail sent out yesterday fro MPC . How do people feel about the price increase ? And the fact our members are actually paying postage now ? . I for one have no problem at all with it as i pay more on a monthly basis for other mystery boxes and get a whole lot more out of my quaterly C&C subscription. What are your opinions guys and are you staying on board for this change

The MPC is changing C&C into a subscription box service, which makes sense since that's what people are buying now. The good news is that more cool stuff will come in the package. I do love the idea of getting more - and more substantial - Curios, but I could not help but wince at the increase of price and size - it seems that this pushes the price past the limit for tax-free purchases and and size past the sort of letter that would slip by customs entirely.
...of course I upgraded the subscription right away. Still, four more trips to customs a year...

In my eyes, the price increase is the least worrying part of that email. The price went up six months ago, and the long term subscribers were simply grandfathered in at the old rate. Personally, I was expecting that they'd standardize the price at some point.

I am greatly concerned about the likely loss of puzzles that require items from other issues.
To be fair, I'll withhold judgement until I've seen a few boxes, but I'm very uneasy. Is this the end of an evolving, volume-spanning story? How will this impact the Vault?
C&C seems to be losing the very things that made it unique and attractive to me.

Price wise into the UK I'm on this new price already ($45 per issue) and have had no customs charges for four issues - size wise might be another matter, but when some kind soul sent me a few MEC boxes, none of them hit charges, so.... ....UK wise might be fine!

In Germany what I receive is something of a mixed bag. As a rule of thumb, letters proceed through customs unmoslested, while packages will be held up. The only exceptions to this were the Crate from The Century Beast and the 2017 Membership Kit, which were delivered directly. On the other hand, of the five parcels from The Haunted Dollhouse, only one was held up in customs, while the other four were delivered directly. All in all, I am perfectly fine with paying taxes and duties I actually owe - I just wish there was an easier way.

Sounds like we have it really easy in the US.

for those of us who didn't get in on the beginning of C&C, I previously hesitated to subscribe for fear of being hopelessly lost and behind. the idea of each box being self-contained and each told from a different place, different genre, different subject matter is very appealing. I subscribed immediately. I'm sure it's a marketing/financial decision to allow more people to subscribe and participate. I'm excited to see the first one!

I thought something similar - I don't want a more tasteful version of loot crate, I want what C&C has been since I discovered it. That being said, if the box version is an "upgrade" as opposed to a departure of the current narrative and puzzle/curio style I'm completely okay with that and with spending the extra money. I wonder since we're to be exploring Victorian London in the next mailing if we'll be getting a prequel of sorts? That could be exciting...

As someone who only subscribed to Curios & Conundrums shortly before the end of Volume 2 I still have a lot of catching up to do myself, but I find the overarching narrative to be the most enjoyable part of Curios & Conundrums. I would be sorry to see the issues become less connected.
I wonder how the results of that survey turned out...

What are your opinions guys and are you staying on board for this change Greetings Dr. Rook, Todd, and esteemed members, I have also received this email. Though it makes me very happy and interested to hear of more goodies and a larger package with the C&C, I am concerned that this may cut out a large portion of members from enjoying things like this due to the increased prices. I do agree with Dr. Rook that the quality for price paid is far superior to other "mail mystery" packages from competitors. However for a long time now the C&C has been the most affordable way for many thirsty minds to delve into this realm while on a budget (compared to their other products). I do understand that with more included, it would require more cost to produce. I am wondering if perhaps an omnibus with just the newspaper and no curios would be more affordable later, for my not-so-well-off friends. Despite all this, the future looks bright for the MPC. Cheers. Eleduar

Question 1: I did not see any change in price, though it may be that since I had just started at the second half of 2016 that I am already paying the increased price.
Just something I would like to verify if anyone is comfortable sharing with me what they were paying versus what they are currently charging.
Also, the $35 price, I believe, is not so bad and very much worth it at this point.
Question 2: The CnC website still makes a small mention to it still being quarterly, but the first one this year seems to be coming rather late for quarterly. Does anyone know for certain weather this has changed or not?

To your first point, I was grandfathered in at $24.99. Upon further inspection of my accounts, I was paying an international fee with my bank, so with my grandfathered price getting bumped up to what you were already paying and now using a card that doesn't have that fee, I might not feel much of a change at all haha. I agree that $35 is a great price still. Divided by 4 months and it's less than $10 a month. Certainly budget-friendly compared to the "activities" my colleagues partake in.
It appears to still be quarterly and a later shipment seems to be the case. Not sure why. Could be to allow longer opportunity for new people to buy into the subscription. Could be that it coincides with the conclusion/start of a few newer experiences that might take a lot of office power (Filigree specifically). Some have even suspected that the MPC saw the groaning of a quarterly arriving around the holidays which took us away from the rest of the world haha. Shifting the first shipment shifts the whole schedule a little. As always, they will likely never confirm nor deny anything, but I AM interested as well in the results of the survey. If even just to ease my feelings of "surely EVERYONE feels the same way I do!"

Thank you@centaurofattn. That was helpful. Also, you are right about the MPC. They don't even confirm nor deny when my shipment is sent, haha. Just part of the fun of the mystery. That also makes sense about the Holidays. Especially since I am the only "literary deranged" in my family.

Something I'm thinking about doing with Volume 4 is getting my retired dad involved with C&C. I wonder if anyone has ever given C&C as a gift. I'm curious how it would work with vault access, since they would obviously need membership.
