I just feel like I can get something very similar and higher quality from an artist in Ets for cheaper. Remember when they originally were going to come in special design wooden crates, numbered and everything. Now it looks like they are just throwing it in the same old crate as always, doesn’t feel limited, kinda looks cheap. The original release came with a video this came with two pictures and a two bit story about another “Global” agency... first the global detective and now the global cryptozoology... They’ve completely lost the story of what the mpc was and it shows. They used to specialize in the unbelievable and now they are a department store. They have somehow managed to take the mystery out of their product and are now just a package company. So ya crickets

I'm glancing over at my bookshelves, on which rest all the MPC crates I own. The ends are all outward to save space. Most of the boxes are different sizes and/or proportions. I used to wish that the experiences came in identically-sized crates for consistency's sake. Alas ... the wages of OCD.

Well, I shock got the Dragon Tooth in the mail today. I’ll be unboxing in a bit, but wow was I not expecting this at all.
Edit: There’s actually a lot of stuff in the box, including a wall scroll, various documents relating to the tooth, and get ready for this, a ready to assemble wooden stand for the tooth. The tooth is very good quality; I’d say comparable but not as good as John Augur. Unfortunately, a couple of the pieces of paper got ripped during the delivery process so I’m going to see if I can get those replaced, but most items were in perfect condition. When unwrapping the tooth, the cloth it was wrapped in seemed to be coated in something that make my hands look grimy, which is fun. Overall, I’m quite happy and will try to post a photoset later tonight.

OK, so here are photos of the two big ticket items, the tooth itself and the full color scroll. There are a bunch of other small items like news articles and a journal entry from someone who found the tooth, but they're not as exciting and a couple of them got ripped in transit, so I'm going to request replacements and can share once I get them. After spending a bit more time with the items, the tooth is actually extremely well done. It's hefty and looks and feels great. There is a "seam" of sorts on the top, but it actually looks more like the curve of a tooth than a seam and I'm sure is intentional. The scroll on the other hand, while a neat item, is rushed in terms of how it was printed; it's glossy with no attempt to age it. I think it's still displayable, but they could have done a lot more with it. I will say though that in fiction the scroll is supposed to be a modern document, so it being glossy isn't a dealbreaker. Overall, I'm very happy with this; I had low expectations and it surpassed them (especially the tooth). I can also upload pictures of the box if there's interest. Looks great. So, is it time to put some of the hate back in the bottle now that the MPC has done two experiences of good quality? I gladly welcome contrasting opinions.

Received today. Crate was an absolute bugger to open. Only way to get the lid off was by banging it with a hammer from inside the box. This was possible because the box was cracked open during shipping. Easy enough to re-nail and glue the crate, so not a big problem.
This definitely could have been a two or three mailing experience had they chosen to do that. There are multiple aged paper items, plus the vinyl banner, plus a letter, and then there is the wooden stand, and the tooth, which came wrapped in aged, filthy cloth like canvas or muslin, and tied nicely with twine.
The artifact looks great. There are no seams visible.
To me this is a classic MPC piece that fits in well with many of their earlier experiences. The only thing that would have made it better is for it to have been sent in at least two mailings.

I somewhat disagree with the two mailings proposal here, as I think the content is too thin to justify the Experience being serialized. I mean, it could be something where the Artifact came in a separate mailing, but there isn’t really a story being told here. It makes more sense to me to have everything arrive in one mailing. In general, I’m happy with this, but the lack of a story hurts the value a little bit. Still, the tooth is seriously impressive and is perhaps the most displayable of all of the Artifacts because of the stand.

Looks great. So, is it time to put some of the hate back in the bottle now that the MPC has done two experiences of good quality? I gladly welcome contrasting opinions. If you would have told me, in 2016, that in just three years I would have completely lost interest in the Mysterious Package Company, I would have never believed you. But today's MPC lacks all of the intrigue and atmosphere of the MPC I signed up to be a member of. We get marketing emails now, not mysterious missives from the elusive Curator. Kickstarters instead of pre-sales. We no longer have the ARG-like interaction of Curios and Conundrums, and Membership Kits. I was reading today about how the business model for streaming services is centered around getting new members, and not retaining existing members. That is why an emphasis is placed on new shows, or saving cancelled shows, only to cancel the shows again in a couple seasons. In the days of network TV, popular shows commanded higher advertising rates, so long-running, popular shows were more desirable. I feel like this model has similarly shifted for MPC. Customer retention is no longer a priority. And while I do admit I am also trained by a personal distaste for people who make their money by stealing (or buying out) other people's ideas, I am pleased that they are producing products that members here find satisfying. I will not be surprised if they remain successful for years into the future. But they have gotten their last dime from me.
