didn't try yet. Because now learning that it actually belongs to a later issue (and still doing the crossword of issue 2 as last thing there before I plan to start on 3. But this plant is mentioned in the bible in genesis xx:xx and also in the song of songs also: 13 Let us get up early to the vineyards; let us see if the vine flourish, whether the tender grape appear, and the pomegranates bud forth: there will I give thee my loves. 14 The mandrakes give a smell, and at our gates are all manner of pleasant fruits, new and old, which I have laid up for thee, O my beloved.
finally in The History and Practice of Magic it is mentoined you take out on day 31.
Maybe this helps. (back to crosswords then for me...)

Excellent suggestions. I tried "DAY31" and "NIGHT" as the wiki mentions it, But it didn't work. At least that narrows it down some EDIT: Have also tried APPLE (it did not work). as a reference to Little Women's "apple-picking time"

Going with the idea of BLOOM.... GREEN also did not work. However.... According to one resource, it may be picked while green and blooming OR when in hay and dry.... so that doesn't help....

I or others I have talked to have tried: night, green, march, april, zimne, bloom, atsun, quick, frost, never, today, onepm, twopm, right, rtanj, lohri, semik, aries, virgo, july7, litha, sunup, early, tenpm, jun24, prime, may15, oct31, mar21, apr20, day31, sixam, while, first, exact I always worry about putting these out here because a fat fingered spelling mistake may cause a lock-out without knowing but I thought it best to share anyway.

Doing some research into the myths revolving around this mythical plant, I found this... The belief in the magical fern flower that blossoms only at St. John's Eve is common among East and West Slavs, Slovenes, Montenegrins and Dalmatian Croatians, and also in Herzegovina, Lika and Croatian Zagorje. In Serbia, Macedonia and Bulgaria the same belief was aplied to another, unspecified plant called raskovnik (Serb. and Mac.), razkovniče (Bulg.). One who happens to be at the right time in the right place and find this magic blossom, could use its supernatural qualities for finding treasures, turning oneself invisible, becoming omniscient, seeing everything that is hidden etc.; however, it is very risky to look for it and very hard to find it, since it is often protected by evil forces, and it's very easy to miss the place in which it is hidden and the moment it blossoms.< www.slavorum.org/forum/discussion/5044/summer-solstice-rites-and-beliefs-in-slavic-countrieswhich contains the same language as a certain tweet I have yet to find the magical answer, but I believe the timing has something to do with the summer solstice.
