The quote from the letter set me straight, and I finally saw the solution. Alas, the clue in the name is lost on me. The clue in the name? First consider your initial impressions of the puzzle. Then at last you can put a name to this dread you are experiencing. Someone needs to add an emoticon for "face palm".

Man, now that I solved the puzzle, I don't know what the name of the letter writer was. I didn't notice the pun. Who signed the letter?

Alright, I think I get the bit behind who signed the letter. But I'm still not sure how to actually solve the puzzle.

Not that this has anything to do with answering the daytime lock, but the handwriting on the letter bothers me. You see all those whips or checkmarks that begin most words? That is someone who wants to acquire everything in life. They're cultured and they think highly of themselves, but they would rather find a way to get someone to do whatever they want for them instead of doing it themselves.
I wonder if MCP takes handwriting traits into consideration when preparing these letters?

could really use a gentle nudge, or a heavy handed push on this one.
